High Rise Condominium Project in Cebu, Philippines

TECON’s engineering team provided comprehensive on-site support for a high-rise condominium project in Cebu, Philippines. Considering the region’s tropical climate—characterized by high heat, humidity, and potential pest issues-the team proactively upgraded the client’s original formwork design. Traditional timber components were replaced with moisture-resistant, durable aluminum beams to enhance structural longevity and reduce maintenance.

Project Overview:

Project Type: High-Rise Condominium

Location: Cebu, Philippines

Project Status: Under Construction

Formwork Systems: Base 20 Wall Formwork & Climbing Formwork CB180/CB240

Total Formwork Area: 300 m2

In this project, the standard H20 timber beams were replaced with aluminium beams across both Base 20 and Climbing Formwork systems. Aluminium’s advantages—lightweight, high strength, and ease of installation—offered improved performance. However, these benefits also brought challenges, as the new material differed from the traditional timber-based system, requiring on-site adjustments.

To ensure a smooth implementation, our engineer conducted a technical safety briefing and introduced the revised design and assembly process. This ensured all workers were well-prepared and understood each step.

Key Challenges and Solutions:

1)        Adaptation to On-Site Changes: Structural modifications required a redesign of the assembly plan and real-time adjustment of formwork components.

2)        Tread Connection Stability: Initial connections using only self-tapping screws were unstable. Reinforcements and alternative connection methods were introduced to enhance security.

3)        Climbing Cone and Rebar Conflict: The climbing cone initially clashed with rebar during mold closure. The connection approach was reengineered—embedding the cone and plate within the rebar cage first, then securing with stress bolts after formwork closure.

Despite the challenges of implementing a new material system, TECON’s engineering support ensured the smooth adaptation of aluminum beams on-site. Through close collaboration, quick problem-solving, and flexible design modifications, the team successfully addressed technical issues, keeping the project on track and optimized for Cebu’s demanding environment. TECON remains committed to delivering tailored solutions that balance innovation with practical on-site needs.
